Self Portrait 2024

5′ x 5′ Charcoal

The process of creating self-portraits is always more difficult than a normal portrait for me. Creating the likeness of someone you only see in the mirror is challenging, but all the more satisfying when you believe you really capture the likeness.

Charcoal is not a medium I have extensive experience with, so I focused on creating large shapes of light and dark, prioritizing creating strong contrast over small detailed work.

Selkie Comic 2022

A short graphic novel detailing the encounter of a Selkie, a Norse myth of a woman who can shapeshift into a seal, and a local fisherman.

My first narrative based piece, and a huge passion project of mine, this story details themes of fundamental differences in relationships.

Fox Bride Series

Inspired by August Toulmouche’s “A Reluctant Bride” as well as Hugues Merle’s “Mother and Child”

Taking renaissance pieces depicting women as blissful, beautiful, and dainty and creating an animal subject- I aimed to create a sense of contempt and rage within the pieces. Through the juxtaposition of beautiful drapery and violent, animalistic urges I was influenced by feminist themes in this series. I hoped to create a strong focal point using limited colors and solid backgrounds.
